Join Us at The 5 Mile Trail Race on Sunday, October 10

 In honor of the 5th year of their popular local 5K trail race, McKaig Nature Center in Upper Merion Township will be hosting a special anniversary 5 Mile Trail Race on Sunday, October 10th. 

A challenging yet beautiful course will wind its way through streams and grassy meadows, over bridges, and along the many trails of this wooded 93-acre oasis.

Custom wooden medals await age group winners, with a 1 mile walk, free kids race, live music and a chilli cook-off rounding out the festivities and ensuring something for everyone on what is sure to be a beautiful Autumn morning.

McKaig Nature Center is a non-profit, visitor funded park. The annual trail race is their largest annual fundraiser providing revenue for park maintenance and recreational & educational events for students and area residents.

Phoenixville Photographer Hosting Local Outdoor Benefit Featuring Performance by John Faye and Vendor Marketplace to Benefit Local Non-Profit Open Hearth

On Saturday, May 8, the event will be held at 2pm. Tickets are $15 in advance. 



Open Hearth to raise funds to help people end homelessness and build financial self-sufficiency. They are celebrating 30 years in the area, serving Montgomery County and Chester County, and will be relocating to their new headquarters on South Main Street in Phoenixville. 

 

John Faye, the prolific singer-songwriter from Philadelphia says, “This will be my first public performance since the start of the pandemic, and I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to play music for people in the flesh and support this cause!”  

 

Laura Keen, Event Organizer, was named by Philadelphia Magazine ‘The Philadelphia-area House Concert Doyenne,’ having hosted previous concerts with Eric Bazilian, Joe Jack Talcium, Joy Ike, Scot Sax, Brittany Robey, Willie Wisely, Jann Klose, Angela Falco, Nik Everett, and Ben Arnold among others to raise funds for local non-profits like the School of Rock, Phoenix Arts Centers, and William Way LGBT. 

 

“I believe deeply in the mission of Open Hearth,” says Keen. “I feel they will be wonderful additions to our Phoenixville community.” 

 

The event includes a community-based marketplace, featuring books, photography, vinyl records, art, and holistic goods.

The concert will adhere to COVID-19 protocols, masks and 6ft social distancing will be required. There will be marked spaces at the event to assist event-goers.  

 

For ultimate safety, we ask that concert-goers bring along their own lawn chair or blanket for ultimate comfort. Due to COVID-19 mandates, we ask that enjoy any food prior to arrival, and enjoy any non-alcoholic beverages while seated in your marked, distanced space.  

 

Additionally, Keen Music Roundtable Collective (KMRC) will be presenting Philly-area native Fern Brodkin with a special award for her contributions to the Philadelphia music community.

They’re sweet, rich and bring a variety of strong flavors to the mix with both chocolate and butterscotch, paired with the texture and flavor of coconut and pecans. 
These bars are best cut small, for their impact is mighty.

Nature’s Path new line of Superfood Granolas – which are chock full of functional ingredients designed to contribute to optimal health, improve endurance, boost stamina, and sharpen mental focus –  you can create a delicious and easy Smoothie Bowl Granola Bark or Golden Turmeric Morning Glory Muffins.

Mary’s Gone Crackers Magic Bars:

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups of Mary’s Sea Salt REAL Thin crumbs (1 box, pulsed or pounded into crumbs)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cups plant based margarine or coconut oil, melted
  • 1 cup vegan dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup vegan butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (pecans or macadamia nuts work best)
  • 1 can sweetened condensed coconut milk

Preparation:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 & line a 9x13 pan with parchment or foil.
  • Mix the crumbs, sugar and butter/coconut oil together and press firmly into the bottom of the pan.
  • Top with chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut & pecans. Pour the sweetened coconut condensed milk over the top.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and cool completely before cutting into bars
