On April 28,
2012, Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa’s Event Center was home for
a few hours to the Counting Crows- an amazing favorite band of mine since their
appearance in 1991.
The Counting Crows
kicked off the 1 ½ hour set with the ever-popular Sullivan Street, then
segueing into their 6th studio release album hit, Underwater
Sunshine.
The sold out show
catered to new and old fans of all ages who listened in rapt attention to the
Counting Crows, led by Adam Duritz and the crew as they left the audience in
singing older favorites and new songs from the new album.
The Borgata’s
Event Center, aptly named, was the perfect space for this band, as Adam and
other band members joked with the crowd, brought them to their feet and really
got into the music and voices swirling around them.
The Counting
Crows didn’t play very long, but they kept the crowd moving with many favorites-
Hospital, Rain King, and my fave, A Long December.
The opening band,
Mean Creek, hails from Boston with Chris Keene,
Aurore Ounjian, Erik Wormwood, and Mikey Holland. Lead singer Kenne commented
we were a tough crowd, since many people were sitting down, but I really
enjoyed them. They had a solid, hard-rock feel, and I totally dug that there
was a girl in the band who could really play guitar.
After their set,
the stage lit up once again and the Counting Crows sang to the people of AC-
great show- great music- wonderful night!
Counting Crows
are Adam Duritz (lead vocals, piano), David Bryson
(guitar), Charlie
Gillingham (accordion,
keyboards), Dan Vickrey (lead guitar), Dave Immergluck (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Jim Bogios
(drums) and Millard Powers (bass) all enjoyed themselves played
for the fans of the Event Center.
