Kreider Farms Introduces Noah’s Pride™ Cage Free and Organic Cage Free Eggs

ShopRite supermarkets will feature the eggs in its stores the week of January 28.
Kreider Farms, one of America’s most progressive and innovative egg and dairy farms and the nation’s 10th largest egg producer, has introduced its Noah’s Pride™ Farm Fresh Premium Cage Free and Organic Cage Free Eggs.

The eggs are produced in Kreider’s state-of-the-art, cage-free aviaries. They have earned USDA, SQF and American Humane Association certifications.

Organic cage free and cage free hens are fed an all-vegetarian diet with no antibiotics, animal by-products or growth hormones. The new Kreider eggs are available in Grade A Large and are sold at select supermarkets and farm markets in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

“Our new, modern cage free aviaries feature the finest quality control, animal welfare and food safety available. And, we have upgraded our other chicken houses, too. Last June, we closed the last remaining conventional-style chicken house. All our non-cage free chicken houses now feature larger cages, tunnel air ventilation and daily manure removal belt systems. Kreider Farms is one of a very select few egg farms in the United State to feature 100 percent upgraded state-of-the-art production and processing facilities in both caged and cage free housing.”

The Noah’s Pride line of eggs is named for Noah Kreider Senior, the grandfather of current Kreider Farms president and CEO, Ron Kreider and Ron’s father Noah, Jr. Noah Kreider Senior and his wife Mary Hershey Kreider (cousin to Milton Hershey) began the farm in 1935.  The Kreider/Hershey homestead farm has remained in the Hershey family since Christian Hershey settled in Manheim back in 1739.

About Kreider Farms
Founded in 1935, Kreider Farms is one of Pennsylvania’s largest dairy farms and is the nation’s 10thlargest egg producer. Kreider Farms’ mission is to achieve excellence in delivering low-cost, high-quality products and services to its customers; to be good neighbors and stewards of the land; to operate efficient, state-of-the-art facilities and create an innovative work environment of openness, honesty and personal satisfaction. Kreider Farms offers farm tours as part of its effort to educate the public about sustainable farming. Allagash Brewing Company Releases Map 40

Allagash Brewing Company Releases Belgian-Style Stout Blended With Cold-Brewed Coffee From Speckled Ax

An Allagash favorite is returning this winter. Map 40, a Belgian-style stout that’s blended with cold-brewed coffee from local roaster Speckled Ax is releasing today to the brewery’s full distribution footprint. It will be available in 4-packs of 12 fl. oz. bottles and on draft at select locations.

“It’s fun working with Matt [of Speckled Ax] because we’re big fans of his coffee,” said Jason Perkins, Brewmaster at Allagash. “And we’re lucky that he’s also a fan of our beer. It was nice to be able to tell Matt how we wanted the beer to taste, and have him come back with the coffee that would work best.”

Map 40’s aroma is strong in coffee and light in roasted grain. Light nuttiness accompanies flavors of chocolate, raisin, and a resounding coffee note that weaves its way throughout. Overall, it’s a rich, creamy stout with a clean finish.

The name of the beer is a nod to the name of the coffee—Map 40 Mokha Java—which is itself a nod to one of the roaster’s favorite parts of Maine: the Forks in Somerset county.

ABOUT ALLAGASH BREWING COMPANY
Founded in Portland, Maine, by Rob Tod, Allagash Brewing Company is dedicated to crafting the best Belgian-inspired beers in the world. Since 1995, Allagash has focused on giving back to the community—and state—that has supported them along the way.

Celebrate National Popcorn Day on January 19

Hey Engchik Eats readers!

I’m excited to share that I’ve partnered with viral holiday website National Today [https://nationaltoday.com/] to share the ultimate 2018 holiday celebration calendar. Below, you’ll find exciting holidays throughout the year — so you can party all year round with me.

I love celebrating at National Today because, not only do they clue me into each month’s holiday—they also give some fun holiday history, facts that will blow my mind, and helpful deals that help me celebrate in style.

Remember to mark these holidays on your calendar, and cheers to a 2018 full of celebration! Stay tuned for other fun days all year long.

We are set to celebrate popcorn day!
Would you believe that humans have been eating popcorn for over 5000 years (and some historians believe longer)! While it was always a great snack, popcorn “popped” to consumption levels during World War II when sugar rations made candy and other snack foods very hard to come by. Since then, with movies and the microwave, popcorn is popular in American culture as a yummy and fast treat!

It's Easy and Fast to Make
Whether you're cooking on the stovetop or in the microwave, popcorn takes a matter of minutes—and you can personalize it with your own favorite toppings: classic butter, spices, and even sriracha! Yum.

It's Filling
Popcorn is a whole grain—the starchy inside of the grain has been cooked and has a lot of air in the final product. The carbohydrates and air add up, making a wonderful snack alternative for those watching their waistline.

It Comes with Good Memories
Think of the morning matinee with your dad or that sweet (and awkward) first date at the movies. Popcorn tends to be part of festive occasions and meaningful moments.

How to Celebrate National Popcorn Day

Make Popcorn Jewelry
Why not make a long necklace for you, friends, family members—even strangers. It will definitely make you the most popular person at the office happy hour.

Plan a Movie Marathon
Three weeks into January? Chances are you just want to hide and eat comfort food—but, your resolutions. There's a win-win! Tee up your favorite Star Wars Trilogy and pop a big bowl of popcorn. You can enjoy the wisdom of Yoda and keep to your diet.
(A little olive oil and salt with the carb-y goodness of the popcorn may just hit the spot!)

Put on the Popcorn Olympics at Your Office
Popcorn basketball, popcorn air hockey, popcorn relay race? After you finish filming your mannequin challenge, burn off your pent-up energy. It will definitely keep you on your toes!

Check out other fun national days here!

More great January fun days!

The Melting Pot Just Started Their Restaurant Week Special Menu and You'd be Crazy to Miss These Fondues

The Melting Pot just started their 12-day restaurant week special -for only $35 per person! It’s running January 14th-19th & 21st-26th, and let me tell you, you don’t want to miss this delicious event.

There’s the 4 Course Experience with 3 different entree fondues to choose from, a new cheese fondue, a fresh salad and then to finish, chocolate fondues.

Sometimes when Steve and I go, I don’t order off the special restaurant week menu and opt for my menu favorites, but not this time.
We ordered the whole lineup and it truly was the best MP fondues we have had!

These are the options and we started with …

We began with wine, a velvety Sav Blanc, which went well with the Pesto Walnut Swiss Cheese Fondue. It had creamy fontina, raclette, Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses swirled with white wine, garlic, fresh pesto and cracked black pepper, then topped off with chopped walnuts.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this, and Steve and I ate every bite- it was divine. The pesto gave it just enough of a kick, and the pepper and garlic blended well with the various cheeses.

The walnuts added perfect crunch with the dippers of apples, pretzel bread and grapes, and our server, Bobby Joe, brought out a sublime balsamic to dot the top of the cheesy morsels, and that was the perfect complement to each bite.

The second course freshened our palates with a Pear and Arugula salad. Fresh arugula greens tossed with our homemade champagne vinaigrette, sliced pears, Gorgonzola cheese, honey roasted almonds and dried cranberries.

All entrees are served with fresh vegetables and a variety of unique dipping sauces as well as our court bouillon cooking style, which is what we got.
More cooking style options are available for additional charge, and vegetarian and gluten free alternatives available upon request.

Each guest can choose one of the following:
The Wayne: Jalapeno filet mignon, chicken & vegetable potstickers, herb coated chicken breast & pacific white shrimp.
The King of Prussia: Cold water lobster tail, filet mignon & sriracha lime shrimp- this! this! this! and some chicken too.
The Audubon: Herb-coated chicken breast, pacific white shrimp, atlantic salmon & sesame wasabi-coated ahi tuna.

The Fourth Course- dessert of course! We got two fondues for dessert, I enjoyed the flaming turle with a bit of sea salt and caramelized nuts and flambeed, and Steve enjoyed the Cookie butter crunch chocolate fondue- which was a dream!

Silky, smooth white chocolate blended with sweet and creamy cookie butter, honey roasted almonds and a hint of caramel. it was gingerbready and smooth, and went perfect with our Melting Pot coffees ( always so great!).

All too soon, it was over. Truly a fabulous meal and you should get here too for the Restaurant Week specials.

$35.00 per person
*tax, drinks and gratuity not included. Coupons and other discounts are not valid with this menu special with the exception of chocolate covered strawberry coupons.
