Don't Miss the Yellow Tail Food Truck Tailgate Tour

Don’t miss a little Australian sunshine in Philadelphia this Saturday and Sunday.

The Yellow Tail Food Truck
Tailgate Tour will be featuring special creations from Food Network star Jeff Mauro, The Sandwich King, with Yellow Tail wine samples available on-site.

The recipes are designed to go with wine and put a spin on the typical beer-and-wings tailgate menu, just in time for the NFL playoffs. We will be serving food and giving out recipe cards –  something fun and different for your audience – and our chefs will be available for interviews about the recipes.

The Yellow Tail Food Truck Tailgate Tour is making stops in multiple cities before arriving in Minneapolis for the Super Bowl.

·                     SAT. 12 noon- 2pm – Fine Wine and Good Spirits at Columbus Commons North Shopping Center, 1940 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.

·                     SUN. 12noon-2pm – Acme, 29 Snyder Ave.
·                     SUN. 3-6pm – The Fresh Grocer, 3021 Grays Ferry Ave.

The Yellow Tail Food Truck and its team of chefs are embarking on a month-long tailgate tour, beginning in Boston and making its way to Minneapolis for the Super Bowl. The truck will be featuring football-friendly sandwich creations from celebrity chef Jeff Mauro (The Sandwich King), together with Yellow Tail wine samples available on site.

Yellow Tail is taking its uniquely Australian brand of fun and festivity to nine cities during the NFL playoffs, serving Jeff’s custom-designed sandwiches at 32 stops in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Orlando, Tampa, New Orleans, Houston and Dallas before arriving in Minneapolis during Super Bowl week. At each stop, the truck will provide tasting samples of Yellow Tail wines and offer Mauro’s sandwiches for a special price.

The tour celebrates how the camaraderie of sports can bring people together, and offers an unexpected alternative to ordinary game day fare. The tour is also raising awareness for the global hunger relief efforts of Rise Against Hunger.  In addition, anyone encountering the food truck will have an opportunity to be entered to win a trip for two to Australia!

The sandwich recipes are easy to prepare at home and are ideal for tailgating, entertaining, or enjoying the games with family and friends. The recipes can be found at the food truck, at retail locations or at www.yellowtailwine.com.

Jeff Mauro’s food truck sandwiches include:
·                     Pig Candy BLT: Crispy, smoked bacon “pig candy,” lettuce, tomato, onion and BBQ aioli, grilled on a buttered brioche bun.
·                     Smokey Pastrami Reuben: Peppery pastrami, gooey pepper jack, tangy sauerkraut and 18,000 island dressing, all griddled together on marble rye.
·                     Veggie Buffalo Cauliflower: Crispy (pan-fried) cauliflower, buffalo sauce, blue cheese ranch, lettuce, tomato on grilled brioche.

Book Review: Wine Folly- The Essential Guide to Wine

Wine oh glorious wine! Sure, you love to drink it, but how well do you pair your food and wine? Do you know what certain years mean or what meats or seafood go best with whites or reds?

Authors Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, have already taken the web and wine world by storm with their award winning and addictive website winefolly.com, and their new book Wine Folly: The Essential Guide to Wine

I'm drinking a citrusy, floral sauvignon blanc as I'm writing this, which makes it even better. The book lacks the typical wine snob factor and offers beautiful content and graphics that simplify everything from how to taste and pair wines, how to spot great quality in your wines, how to find wines you’ll love no matter what the occasion, and much more.

They bring you a guide that speaks plainly with humor, information, news, and wine! This book is a must have for any household- easy to match various cuisines to all kinds of wines, red, white, and rose, plus worldwide regions and history.

In their debut book–a new bible for wine for the 21st century–you’ll find:
• Detailed taste profiles of popular and under-the-radar wines
• A wine-region section with detailed maps
• Quick tips on storing, tasting, and serving wine

Get this book for someone who loves wine or have it in your kitchen- a good read, informative, and fun, with excellent graphics and info you need to know on wine.

Madeline Puckette is a certified sommelier with Court of Master Sommeliers, and has travelled extensively into the world’s wine regions. Her prior background in design inspires the content at winefolly.com, and her work has been used by Wines of France, The Court of Masters Sommeliers and the Guild of Sommeliers to help wine professionals learn. In 2013, Wine Folly was named Wine Blogger of the year by the International Wine & Spirits competition.

Justin Hammack has a background in computer science and entrepreneurialism. He is the founding partner of Wine Folly who leads business strategy, internet technologies, and information modeling

Engchik's Favorite Fall Flavors

Shake up the Pumpkin!

Have you tried Godiva’s Pumpkin Trufflelata yet? NO!? This delicious creation is a seasonal spin on the Trufflelata shake. Created with the Pumpkin Cheesecake Truffle -pumpkin spice and cheesecake ganache in a milk chocolate shell- and topped with fresh whipped cream and ground cinnamon, it’s an indulgent treat that fits the autumn season! Seriously try this at your area Godiva’s chocolatier! The Philadelphia location is at 1625 Chestnut Street.

I Heart Jam!
Chai Heart Pumpkin Jam from the Jam Stand- creamy, pumpkin, and spicy- this jam has it all.
Flavorful with the tastes of autumn, this jam is perfect on toast, ice cream and more.
Find this jam and other greats by the Jam Stand at your local natural foods store. I love it with my rye toast and an omelette.

Get wicked with your wine!
Wicked Wine: the most festive, and dark Halloween wine, created in limited edition by the “Godfather of Zin” and founding Ravenswood Winemaker, Joel Peterson.
On-trend for Halloween parties thanks to its dark and ominous artwork, BESIEGED’s chilling label (a nod to Ravenswood’s first harvest, when a circling flock of ravens taunted Joel from overhead) belies the bottle’s rich, warm contents.
This wine is a unique blend of Petite Sirah, Carignane and Zinfandel grapes with notes of blackberry, black cherry, and plum spiced with cardamom.

What do you love for Fall?

PA Wine Fest In Oaks-September 12 & 13!

The
PA WineFest in Oaks on September 12 and 13 had a great turnout, plus wine tastings and more! Inside Hall D at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center 100 Station Ave, Oaks, with plenty of free parking.

Many wineries offered unique flavored (habenero wine?) wines and interesting vendors, like BeSpoke Bacon and Health & Tea loose leaf teas from West Chester.

Wineries

Boyd's Cardinal Hollow Winery
Buddy Boy Winery & Vineyards
Kog Hill Winery
Nectar Valley Winery
Papa Joe's Wine Cellar
Peace Valley Winery
Reece Winery
Stonekeep Meadery & Wine Cellars
The Vineyard at Hershey
University Wine Company

Other vendors included scented candles, jewelry, makeup, toys, the ever-present Mary Kay vendor, and vendors selling windows and timeshares. There was also a vendor, Drinkable Arts where people could design and paint a wineglass, which was a fun and unique way to pass an hour.

Once I got through the throngs of bachelorette parties and bridesmaids, I was able to sample some unique flavors.

Vendors
Bespoke Bacon
CC Silver Stuff
Cynful Bliss (Sunday Only)
Drinkable Arts
D's Sexy Legs
Fortes Finest
Health and Tea, LLC
It Works 7cs
Jesse's Specialty Snacks & Gifts
Keystone Farms Cheese
Mary Kay Cosmetics
MerVino Mixes
MH Marketing
Origami Owl
Renewal By Andersen
Sabika Jewelry
Scentsy
Sundance Vacations
Theresa's MakeUp Erasers

Sadly, there wasn't a cupcake vendor to be seen, although keystone farms cheese vendor had cheese curds, which I adore.

Hershey's winery had a delicious strawberry wine that was like biting into a fresh berry, perfect as a base for a sangria.

Dry Rieslings, fresh pino grigios and tasty Merlots rounded out the tastings.

Plus, all wineries offer bottle check so wine can be bought and held at the door until the customer is ready to leave, without having to carry it around all day.

Today's Sunday session is still available: noon to 4pm, just $30 each!

DD tickets available.

This is a 21+ only event.

And don't miss future PA wine events:
Monroeville 9/20/2015
